Flash Back 2000 – four thousand spectators massed in Novosibirsk’s Ice Hockey Palace in Russia to witness some of the best Mauy Thai the World had to offer Belarus vs Thailand.
17-year old Alexei Pekarchik from Belarus (currently lives in Australia) knocked out the four-time champion of Lumpinee 26-year old Karuhat Sor Supawan.
To that date fight record was as shown below
Pekarchik – 68 fights, 45 wins
Supowan 124 fights – 108 wins
There were 6 total fights on the night with 5 knockouts. Prior – PEKARCHIK vs KARUHAT – which was the third on the card, the first two were ended in the 4th and 3d rounds with the Thais taking the knee to the body wins. That’s probably why you can see smiles on Karuhat’s and his trainer faces during Wai Khru. However there is no need to under-estimate your opponent.
Also watch one of Karuhat Sor Supawan’s fights below, just to see his level. And more fights are here on Youtube.
BONUS
The last fight of the night was Dmitri Shakuta vs Pramuenrit Sithsaengarun which also ended by the way of knockout.
It had to be quite worrying for Shakuta waiting for his entrance while every fight except of one ended much earlier than the final bell.
